Investigate similar applications on the market(2)

Instagram & Behance

Home page

This is the home page of Instagram and Behance, "Bringing you closer to the people and things you love. — Instagram from Facebook". They are all photo-sharing applications. However, we can find the aim of Instagram is to make people closer. "Behance is the leading online platform to showcase & discover creative work. Leading creative companies find talent on Behance, and millions of visitors use Behance to track the latest and greatest creative talent." Behance is more technique and you even may find a job through it. In this page, you can find Instagram have a chat function, the application I want to make is paying attention to share and communication, so I think it may more like Instagram. The other thing is Behance takes note of the name of the software, that makes it look more professional.

Instagram

You can see the Instagram pay more attention to the composition of pictures and Behance pay more attention to the integrity and professionalism of the work, it gives you more choices to adjust the texts.

Behance classifies these pictures this makes users easier to find the picture they want and Instagram look more random.

I will continue to update the differences between the two software as I find out.

Investigate similar applications on the market(1)

Pixiv

"As of September 2016, the site consists of over 20 million members, over 43 million submissions, and receives over 3.7 billion page views monthly. Pixiv aims to provide a place for artists to exhibit their illustrations and get feedback via a rating system and user comments. Works are organized in an extensive tag structure which forms the backbone of the website."  This application gathers artists from all over the world, it works with a lot of printing houses to help artists publish their own portfolios and pushes out its own drawing software 'CLIP STUDIO', you can publish your work on Pixiv by this software directly. The rich extensive services and detailed label classification are believed it's unique selling point. Next, we will analysis the constriction and layout of this application.

The home page has three big modules: illustration, manga and novels. Manga as a well-known culture is difficult to define its audiences, everyone has read comics at one time or another, this is not only limited in teenagers but also people of every age but it will differentiate strictly the content over the age of 18 and all ages by verifying user's personal information. The illustration has relatively more extensive audiences, you can publish anything you create on it. You can see many cases of novices becoming masters here. The main part is divided into modules of Rankings, Popular Lives and Recommended which can be scrolled. There are photos and popularities at the bottom of every work.

The Newest page often posts some information about recent competitions in this application, by the way, it has the web version. You can see the recently developments of the artists you follow in the following module. The most part why I like this application is It has no advertisement, it only recommends some new artists and makes novices easier to get attention. Most of its revenue comes from its expanded services like membership system(you can watch official tutorial) and software.

You can use the search module to find the work and follow the artist you want.

The sidebar is one of the most important parts. You may have already found, it appears the repetition in the first part with the home page in some features. It's thought be necessary for easier to use. The second part is about your work, you can check your work, collection and browsing history on it. However,  Markers is thought to be the same as Collection and I have never used it, so I will cancel it when I do my work.

You have to put a lot of detail information on the module of Submit work, that's why there are so many tags on every work to help audiences find something they want and I think this is a really good part, and you can share your work on other applications immediately(this part collects the information of your devices).

This is the Follow module and you can watch the latest developments of the artists you follow.

The part of the feedback and the information about this application. Although few people would go to check it, it's still an important part and it's very detailed. I think I will refer to it in my work.

In the next post, I will analysis the Instagram and Behance, they are also very great application, but Because of the simplicity of their features, I'll put them together in the same blogger article.

Initial idea of my application

I want to customize a social application for cartoonists. Provide a platform for them to communicate with each other and resources like tools, images, and tutorials. The users divided into under-18s and over-18s. The unique selling point is it integrates the music module and set the Bluetooth button in the application, so you don't have to switch the interface to turn on Bluetooth. Although this is only a small detail, it is the real feedback from the people around me.

You can see my initial idea about the logo, slogan and rough layout from this image. The concept of my logo is a cartoon man posed like 3"C". It means Cartoonist, Communication, and Creative. Obviously, the most important part is 'communication', because it is a social application. Furthermore, the slogan is "Let's make progress together!" Collaboration and share is the core theme of this application.

This is the initial idea of the home page layout, the sidebar includes information about works, following, and settings; the topbar includes homepage, tools(Provides purchase links for tools), tutorial(Provides web links for tutorials), and search(You can search the name of work or author).
The main part includes popular painter and work every day, week, month, or year, and recommended work(The popularity of works is growing fast) and process(Painter can live the process of drawing.)

The second sketch

First, we made graphic design in Adobe Illustrator. Put some necessary information like Logo, ingredient, bar code and recyclable icon.

Then we use the model with the basic effect in Adobe Photoshop. Next, put the picture on through smart object. Adding shadow and high light.

Finally, put all the things together, and we finished.

The second logo

This is our second concept of logo, we want to make it look more formal and easier to use in the different scenarios.

We don't change the colour of the last version, but we want to make it be a series. The following picture is the process of how we made it.

These two versions are we chose to be de final version, and we add the border to strengthen and limit the shape of Logo.

I will make the sketch in the next blog, thanks for your following.
